Student Guidelines and Professional Development
School of Paramedical Studies (SPACS College)
At SPACS College, we do more than teach medical theory; we help student establish the professional work habits required for a successful career in healthcare. The following guidelines outline our expectations for students and the standards of our institution.
1. Methods of Payment
To ensure secure and efficient processing, SPACS accepts the following payment methods:
- Online Payments: Visit https://payment.spacscollege.com/ for immediate processing.
- Bank Deposits: For cash payments above JMD$5,000, students must pay directly at any designated bank across the island.
- Canceled Classes: If a class is canceled by the coordinator due to low registration, students may receive a full refund of their deposit or roll the credit over to a future class.
2. Professional Code of Conduct
Healthcare is a field of high standards. Students are expected to adhere to the following:
- Grooming and Dress: Students must follow the uniform policy provided at the start of the course. The Program Director has the final say on the acceptability of hairstyles or attire.
- Campus Environment: Our campus where mainly for practical sessions activities is strictly smoke-free. Students are responsible for the cleanliness of their work areas.
- Electronics: All devices must be silenced or turned off during class unless explicit permission is given by an instructor.
- Professionalism: Abusive language, racial/sexual/religious slurs, bullying, and intimidation are strictly prohibited and are grounds for immediate termination.
- Physical Safety: Maintaining proper posture is essential to prevent injury. Students must also alert instructors of any allergies (e.g., latex sensitivity).
3. Attendance and Absences
Because clinical space is limited, regular attendance is mandatory.
- Reporting: Absences due to illness or family emergencies must be reported to the school immediately.
- Leave of Absence (LOA):
- After 42 Hours of Theory: Students may be granted an LOA for up to 3 months for documented medical emergencies, jury duty, or military orders.
- Before 42 Hours: LOA will not be granted; students must follow the standard attendance policy.
- Make-up Work: It is the student’s responsibility to obtain notes and complete all missed examination, theory, practical, or lab work following an absence.
4. Grievance and Appeal Procedures
We maintain an “Open Door" policy to resolve concerns fairly and quickly.
Grievance Flow:
- Step 1: Report the incident in writing via the Student Representative Council member within 48 hours.
- Step 2: If unresolved, the matter is escalated to the School Program Director.
Appeal Procedure: If student wish to appeal a decision, submit a written request for a hearing to the Coordinator including the incident date, a statement of the appeal, and any witnesses. A hearing will be set within 30 days, and a written decision will be rendered within 30 days after the hearing.
5. Corrective Action and Dismissal
Failure to follow guidelines will result in corrective action, which may include:
- Written Warnings
- Suspension or Expulsion
Grounds for Immediate Dismissal: Physical violence, threats, intentional destruction of property, fraudulent documentation, cheating, or failure to make required payments.
